Foundation of Petronord Energie- und Wärmekonzepte GmbH
With the founding of Petronord Energie- und Wärmekonzepte GmbH, this company - initially under the name PROVISTA Zweihundertsiebenundsechzigste Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbH - takes over and pushes forward the activities in the end-consumer business that have been ongoing at Mabanaft since the 1980s. Petronord acts as a holding company for medium-sized mineral oil dealers. The beginning of a success story that enables traders to assert themselves in the increasingly competitive energy market in the form of individual participation and cooperation models. In 2014, the company was renamed Petronord GmbH & Co. KG.
Petronord launches its new end-consumer business model with Mühlenbruch Stinnes in Bremen
At the same time as Petronord Energie- und Wärmekonzepte GmbH is founded, the business operations of Mühlenbruch Stinnes GmbH &Co. KG, which previously belonged to Mabanaft's end-consumer business, are transferred to Petronord. Mühlenbruch Stinnes is a medium-sized company that has been active in the mineral oil trade in the Bremen area for decades at this point. The focus is on the heating oil end-consumer business, whereby the company supplies not only private, but also industrial and commercial customers. With Mühlenbruch Stinnes as number one, the development of the Petronord Group's end-consumer business begins.
Petronord grows: First with the company Klindworth - followed a year later by Kronol
Klindworth Mineralölhandel joined the group in October 1998 and Kronol Mineralölhandel in September 1999. With these companies Petronord acquires two Hamburg-based companies whose main focus is on the sale of heating oil products and on tank and heating technology. Klindworth and Kronol's customer base includes both private households and property management companies. From 2001 onwards, Klindworth Mineralölhandel and Kronol Mineralölhandel form one company and trade under the name Klindworth-Kronol.
Petronord launches its first participation model with Wittemöller Mineralöle
In December 1998, Petronord's first individual investment model is created, which runs the business activities of Friedrich Wittemöller KG under the name Wittemöller Mineralöle GmbH. Friedrich Wittemöller KG is a long-established family business that has been operating in the market as a distribution partner of Esso AG for decades. In addition to the classic heating oil and diesel business and its own petrol stations, the company focuses on the lubricants segment. Furthermore, Wittemöller Mineralöle has a tank farm on the Mittelland Canal and thus a direct connection to shipping.
Another addition to Petronord: Lipps Mineralöle GmbH in Hagen
Lipps Mineralöle GmbH has been a member of the Petronord Group since November 1999. The family-owned company, founded in 1869, supplies private customers and commercial enterprises with heating oil and diesel fuel from Hagen-Hohenlimburg in the southern Ruhr area, Märkischer Kreis and Sauerland. The lubricants business and the operation of its own card filling stations are also part of Lipps' product portfolio.
Digol Energieservice strengthens Petronord in the Hesse and Thuringia region
The Digol Group - a traditional company in the Fulda area - is one of the first victims of the price war at petrol stations in mid-2000. While OIL! Tankstellen GmbH & Co. KG takes over the group's petrol stations, Petronord acquires the company's trading activities. In addition to private households, Digol supplies customers from the commercial, industrial and agricultural sectors with heating oil, diesel, carburetor fuels and lubricants.
Petronord connects: The companies NEWCo New Energy and Heat Concepts and Petrocargo are created
The Petronord shareholding Wittemöller Mineralöle and the companies Hempelmann and Kemena merge to form NEWCo Neue Energie- und Wärmekonzepte. In addition to mineral oil trading, the new group of companies operates card filling stations especially for transport companies, which are now networked throughout Europe under the tankpool24 brand. As an ISO-certified lubricant expert, NEWCo is one of ExxonMobil's largest lubricant partners in Germany.
During the merger of the three companies, the logistics are bundled in Petrocargo Mineralöllogistik. The main customer is initially NEWCo, but Petrocargo also offers export support to other mineral oil companies in the region.
Breaking new ground: Petronord expands activities in the pool filling station business with Staack
In November 2001, Petronord takes over all 33 petrol stations for commercial heavy-duty transport from Staack Mineralölhandel GmbH and the associated customer base into the newly founded Staack Pooltankstellen GmbH. At the same time, the company becomes a member of tankpool24 and continues to expand its business under the tankpool24 brand.
Petronord acquires a stake in the company Kaiser Söhne in Arnsberg together with Lipps Mineralöle in Hagen.
Founded in 1899, the company Kaiser Söhne GmbH, based in Arnsberg, looks back on a history of more than one hundred years as a mineral oil trader. At the time of the takeover, Kaiser Söhne had belonged to ESSO Rhein-Ruhr for several years. Together with Karl-Josef Brachthäuser from Finnentrop - also a strategic sales partner of ExxonMobil - the company Lipps Mineralöle takes over the company. Kaiser Söhne specialises in the distribution of lubricants and in 2003 Lipps Mineralöle transfers its lubricants business completely to them.
New addition to Mabanaft: Benol becomes part of the Petronord group
Since 1999, Mabanaft has been operating its end-user business in the Frankfurt area under the name Benol Energieservice. As part of further company acquisitions, Mabanaft's corresponding activities in Karlsruhe and the surrounding area have also belonged to Benol as a branch office since 2001. In 2002, Mabanaft transfers Benol to Petronord. Both Benol in Frankfurt and the Karlsruhe location sell heating oil to end-consumer households and also supply diesel and petrol to commercial and municipal customers as well as industrial companies in addition to heating oil.
The Petronord network is expanding: Deglmann Energie becomes the tenth in the alliance
On 1 January 2003 Petronord, together with the Deglmann family, takes over the business operations of Deglmann Energie GmbH & Co. KG. The new company acquires the end-consumer business of Deglmann Mineralöl GmbH, headquartered in Weiden. Deglmann Mineralöl GmbH is a long-established regional mineral oil trading company and long-standing Shell sales partner. The company operates branches in Weiden, Schwandorf and Regensburg.
Böttcher Energie - a strong new partner in the northern Bavarian region
Together with Richard Böttcher, Petronord takes over the business operations of Böttcher Energie GmbH & Co. KG as of 1 March 2003. During this, the new company acquires the end-consumer business of Böttcher & Huber, Regensburg. Böttcher & Huber is a mineral oil trading company that has been based in the region for a long time and whose origins can be found in the coal trade. As a now established energy trader, the product range extends from heating oil and pellets to diesel and lubricants.
Mabanaft engages in end-consumer business in Austria via Petronord
On 1 January 2004, Mabanaft Austria Holding GmbH & Co. KG acquired a stake in Manfred Mayer MMM Mineralölvertriebsgesellschaft mbH in Austria, with the Mayer family holding the remaining shares. Since the early 1970s, MMM has been supplying households, commercial and industrial enterprises as well as discount petrol stations and heating oil dealers in Burgenland as well as in Vienna, Lower Austria and Styria. The product and service portfolio ranges from heating oils and lubricants to fuels and mineral oil transport. Like the orientation of Petronord's investments in Germany, the involvement in the end-consumer business in Austria initially serves to support the trading business of Mabanaft Austria. From the beginning, Petronord is responsible for the company's technical aspects. Later, the participation of Mabanaft Austria is transferred to Petronord.
Petronord grows with further lubricants business in Austria: Lubes Services Austria
The strategic decision of ExxonMobil to distribute lubricants in Austria exclusively through regional dealers leads to NEWCo and Manfred Mayer MMM jointly founding a new company, LSA - short for Lubes Services Austria - in October 2005. From the very beginning, LSA has been one of ExxonMobil's strategic distribution partners in Austria and, as a medium-sized mineral oil trading company, distributes the entire product range of the Mobil and Esso brands for industry, trade, and commerce in large parts of Austria from its headquarters in Vienna.
Petronord further expands end-consumer business with the establishment of Hartmann Energie
On 1 January 2007, Petronord acquires the end consumer businesses of Klaus Hartmann GmbH and Digol Energie GmbH. During this, the two companies will be merged under the umbrella of the newly founded company Hartmann Energie GmbH & Co. KG in Oberleichtersbach (Franconian/Bavarian Rhön). The Klaus Hartmann company is a long-established mineral oil trading company and has had a close business relationship with Mabanaft Frankfurt for many years.
Klaus Hartmann took over the business of Digol Energie with its locations in Künzell and Schmalkalden from Petronord in May 2005. With the acquisition of the two companies on 1 January 2007, Digol Energie returns to the Petronord Group as a branch of Hartmann Energie.
With Keck in Brakel, the number of Petronord holdings rises to fifteen
Together with Lars Keck, Petronord acquires the end consumer business of Erich Keck e.K. on 1 January 2008 and transfers it to the new company Keck Energieservice GmbH & Co. KG, Brakel. Erich Keck e.K. is an established mineral oil trading company in the region. In addition to the classic heating oil and diesel business, the company is both a shareholder of tankpool24 with 37 petrol stations in the pool petrol station business and a strategic sales partner of ExxonMobil in the lubricants market. With this acquisition, Petronord continues the expansion and diversification of the end-consumer business and continues to build consistently on the regional identity of the shareholdings.
The Lubricants Business Unit in the Petronord Group is growing and growing - with JB GERMAN OIL
JB GERMAN OIL, based in Wittenburg, joins Petronord in March 2008. The company's focus is on the distribution and production of lubricants. JB GERMAN OIL exports to more than 30 countries in Europe, North Africa and the Near, Middle and Far East. Local trading partners and distributors successfully sell the lubricants supplied by JB GERMAN OIL in those countries.
With OILTECH Lubes Service, Petronord again increases the number of lubricant companies
OILTECH Lubes Service GmbH & Co. KG, based in Düsseldorf, has been active under the umbrella of the Petronord Group since April 2008 and strengthens the lubricants division here. The company has been selling brand-name lubricants in the car dealership and workshop business segment since 2001. The core area of OILTECH's business activities extends from North Rhine-Westphalia through Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland and Baden-Württemberg to Bavaria.

The newly founded company Mabanol has been involved in the lubricants business since April 2010 and is establishing its products on the market under the same brand name. The lubricants are sold nationally in direct business; internationally, Mabanol offers the products to renowned trading partners.
Petronord further expands lubricant activities with Mühlenbruch Stinnes Schmierstoffservice
To ensure optimal and professional support especially for business customers around the Mabanol brand, Petronord founds Mühlenbruch Stinnes Schmierstoffservice GmbH & Co. KG, Bremen. The new company's sales territory covers the whole of Germany. Mühlenbruch Stinnes Schmierstoffservice distributes the entire product portfolio of the Mabanol brand, i.e. lubricants for automotive (cars and trucks) as well as for industrial use. The entire range is aimed specifically at mineral oil dealers and trading partners who are or would like to be active in the lubricants sector.
Petronord enters new territory: bitumen expands product diversity within the group
In January 2011, Petronord starts in an additional business field: the newly founded Mabanol Bitumen GmbH & Co. KG specialises in marketing bitumen and bitumen components to national and international customers as well as end users from various industries. The focus is on industrial applications, road construction and roofing membranes. With Mabanol Bitumen, 20 companies now belong to the Petronord Group.
Expansion of Petronord's end consumer business: Acquisition of Greiner GmbH in Wabern
On 1 July 2011, the company Greiner GmbH becomes part of the Petronord Group. As an Aral brand partner, Greiner GmbH is a long-established regional mineral oil trading company that is also active in the lubricants market in addition to the classic heating oil and diesel business. In addition to the companies Benol and Digol (branch of the company Hartmann), Petronord is thus further expanding its presence in Hessen.
In North Rhine-Westphalia, the Petronord Group continues to grow with the establishment of Uhlenbruck & Kemmann Energie
On 1 March 2012, Petronord starts the business operations of the newly founded company Uhlenbruck & Kemmann Energie GmbH. The end consumer businesses of Hermann Uhlenbruck Mineralölvertrieb GmbH, Mülheim, and Eduard Kemmann GmbH & Co. Mineralölhandel, Kaarst, flow into this new company. As a long-established mineral oil trading company, Hermann Uhlenbruck Mineralölvertrieb GmbH is involved in the pool petrol station business as a shareholder of tankpool24 with 19 locations, in addition to the classic heating oil and diesel business. The company Eduard Kemmann GmbH & Co. Mineralölhandel is a strategic distribution partner of ExxonMobil in the lubricants market and this partnership is transferred to the new company.
Intensification of the Staack pool filling station business
In order to further strengthen the position of Staack Pooltankstellen GmbH & Co. KG's position in the market, an agreement was reached with TM Handel und Tanklogistik GmbH & Co. KG on another individual form of participation within the Petronord Group. The business operations of TM Handel und Tanklogistik will flow into Staack Pooltankstellen as of 1 January 2013. In return, Thies Mosner will receive a stake in Staack Pooltankstellen. TM Handel und Tanklogistik is a mineral oil trading company operating in Schleswig-Holstein, which is regionally represented in the pool petrol station business as a shareholder of tankpool24 with 14 acceptance locations.
With EAG, Petronord expands its expertise and range of products in the heating market
On 1 November 2013, the starting signal is given for a new business field within Petronord. With the founding of EAG Energie Abrechnungs- und Service GmbH in Hiddenhausen, the group has an energy supplier for natural gas and electricity in its own ranks for the first time. Combined with the services of the regional locations active in the heating market, both products become part of the portfolio throughout Germany.
The number of lubricant locations within Petronord continues to grow: with John Lubricants.
With effect from 1 January 2014, Petronord is expanding its activities to include the business operations of John Schmierstoffe GmbH, Altlandsberg (Brandenburg). The company has been distributing lubricants since 1990 and is one of the established dealers in Berlin-Brandenburg. In addition, John Schmierstoffe also serves customers in the region along the Polish border to Berlin as well as in other federal states. The range of branded products offered includes around 800 lubricants from a wide variety of application areas.
Another family business joins the strong Petronord alliance: ZIEGLMEIER Energie
With ZIEGLMEIER Energie GmbH, a traditional company with a long history becomes part of the Petronord Group. It is headquartered in Schrobenhausen and is well known as an energy trading company in the region and established in the distribution of heating oil, wood pellets, natural gas as well as fuels and lubricants. Excluded from the merger is the service station business of ZIEGLMEIER GmbH & Co. KG, which will be continued by Nico Zieglmeier.
Petronord strengthens its activities in Bavaria with the foundation of Kiessling Energie
On 1 May 2016, Petronord founded Kiessling Energie GmbH & Co. KG. The new company incorporates the Riediger family's long-standing business activities in the mineral oil trading sector. These include, on the one hand, the trade in heating oil and fuels to private and commercial end consumers, which has been successfully operated from Lauterhofen since 1918. In addition, the portfolio includes the independent petrol station and the distribution of various lubricant products to users from industry, trade and crafts as well as to municipal institutions.
