New Trees for Klövensteen Forest in Schleswig-Holstein

Hamburg | 09.11.2016

As Initiative Pro Klima partners, OIL! Tankstellen GmbH & Co. KG, and Klindworth-Kronol Energie GmbH & Co. KG, engage in environmental protection beyond their daily business routine. For instance, the two companies recently participated in a tree-planting campaign in Klövensteen Forest that involved the planting of some 10,000 deciduous trees.

The planting campaign began on November 4, 2016. Supported by forest rangers, numerous representatives of the companies involved joined children from surrounding kindergartens in putting young seedlings into the ground in Klövensteen forest, a 500-hectare recreational forest extending from the west of Hamburg to parts of Schleswig-Holstein. On the instigation of OIL! And Klindworth-Kronol, 5,000 of the approximately 10,000 deciduous trees were funded by Initiative Pro Klima.

The planting campaign under the heading “Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein Plant Drinking Water” was initiated by Klimapatenschaft GmbH in cooperation with Trinkwasserwald e.V. and the Klövensteen district forestry. The idea is to support the formation of groundwater by planting deciduous trees. Deciduous trees drop their leaves in winter, allowing more water to enter the forest floor. The existing spruce coverage in Klövensteen Forest is gradually being converted to a multi-layered and species-rich, mostly deciduous forest, so the forest is a good place to plant new trees.

OIL! Tankstellen and Klindworth-Kronol see it as part of their corporate responsibility to preserve and protect the environment. One of their ventures in this connection is Initiative Pro Klima, which initiates and funds climate-research and -protection projects. More than 142,000 trees have already been planted in Germany under these projects.
