10,000 New Trees for Schleswig-Holstein

Hamburg | 03.12.2018

OIL! Tankstellen and Klindworth-Kronol have been involved in environmental protection for some time as part of the Initiative Pro Klima (IPK). The most recent example is the reforestation in Sarlhusen, initiated and financed by both companies in cooperation with the Schleswig-Holstein State Forests. Thus the IPK continues its activities successfully also in the tenth year of its existence.

On the outskirts of Sarlhusen, a municipality about 60 km north of Hamburg, a total of 10,000 young beeches, oaks, hornbeams, winter lime trees, Douglas firs, silver firs and other tree species have been planted on an area of about 1.8 hectares in recent weeks. The resulting mixed forest contributes to species diversity and can withstand extreme weather conditions. For Schleswig-Holstein, which has few forests, this is a great benefit.

Last Tuesday, employees from OIL! service stations and Klindworth-Kronol as well as children from the local Regenbogen kindergarten met to get an overview of the plantations on site. Supported by planting helpers from the Schierenwald forest reserve, they then picked up the spade themselves and placed the remaining 500 seedlings in the ground.

Robert Kurtze, Managing Director of OIL! Tankstellen: "We see the preservation and protection of our environment as part of our corporate responsibility. Today more than ever, because the weather extremes that can be observed all over the world do not stop at our front door. This is why we are committed to the environment beyond our day-to-day business by supporting reforestation projects, among other things".

"We are aware of our responsibility," says Julia Paravicini, Head of Real Estate and Finance at the Schleswig-Holstein State Forestry Department. "We are all the more grateful for the Pro Klima Initiative and are delighted with the great commitment shown by OIL! Tankstellen and Klindworth-Kronol.”

Initiative Pro Klima was founded in 2008 by small and mid-size oil traders, service station operators and other companies in the energy industry. It focuses on three action areas: providing efficient products, offering information and consultation on environment-related energy topics, and advancing climate research and climate protection projects. As part of these projects, more than 162,000 trees have already been planted in Germany.

OIL! Tankstellen GmbH & Co. KG is a subsidiary of Mabanaft, the trading division of Marquard & Bahls, Germany. Since 1994 OIL! has been operating a continuously growing service station network throughout Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Denmark with more than 330 service stations, over 230 of them in Germany. OIL! offers customer-oriented services and has positioned itself as an independent brand in the service station business.

Klindworth-Kronol Energie GmbH & Co. KG is an associated company of Petronord and thus part of Mabanaft, the trading division of Marquard & Bahls, Hamburg. For decades, Klindworth-Kronol has served as a heat supplier in Hamburg and environs, supplying customers with heating oil, diesel and petroleum fuels.
